The Clean Air Foundation developed the Car Heaven program in July 2000, to accelerate the retirement of old, higher-polluting vehicles and to promote a shift to new, cleaner and more efficient technologies.

Car Heaven operates across Canada and offers potential donors the free tow of their retired vehicle (valued at $200), a charitable tax receipt from a charity of their choice (minimum $50), and the guarantee that their old vehicle is recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

While the early retirement of older cars is not new, Car Heaven is unique because of its ability to successfully engage motorists to retire their old, higher polluting vehicles sooner than they normally would.

To date, Car Heaven has engaged over 88,000 motorists across Canada to retire their old clunkers.
