Why Cool Shops?
Cool Shops is a market transformation program targeting street-facing retailers. The purpose of the program is to identify and implement in-store energy management measures that encourage the small-business commercial sector to save on utility costs and reduce energy consumption. Through strategic partnerships the Cool Shops program is well-positioned to provide significant reductions in energy consumption and the release of greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollutants.

Three Easy Steps to Energy Savings
Cool Shops identifies appropriate energy saving measures for each retailer by conducting an energy audit. Retailers can implement some of these recommendations to become a ‘Cool Shop.’

STEP ONE - The Energy Audit & Free Instant Energy Saving Installs

• Using Palm Pilots we do a free lighting energy audit to assess the energy savings your business can achieve through an upgrade in your lighting technology.
• Participants will also receive:
  • two free ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs),
  • two free LED exit sign bulbs,
  • a discounted product offer sheet with available energy efficient lighting alternatives, and
  • a free high efficiency pre-rinse spray valve (for restaurants).

STEP TWO - It's Your Choice
The energy audit will help us identify the best ways in which you can reduce energy use simply by upgrading your lighting. Changing your lighting is the cheapest and easiest retrofit you can do in your business to start instantly reducing your energy use costs.

• A discounted product offer sheet is available for those businesses who want to invest in conservation and purchase energy-saving commercial grade products. The lighting products are made available through Brite-Lite at a reduced cost through FortisBC Powersense and delivered within three days.

STEP THREE - We Help Promote Your Business
The Cool Shops marketing program raises your profile as a business that is taking positive steps towards a sustainable future. Here’s how we will promote your business:

• You will be branded as an official “Cool Shop: A Business Committed to Conservation” with a window decal.
• You will be featured on our Website.
• Lastly, we will take out advertisements to showcase participating businesses in local newspapers to highlight that you are doing your part to create a conservation culture in your community.

How It Works:
Our staff will call to let you know when they will be in your area. At that time you can coordinate the best time for them to come visit or you could welcome them when they visit your store.
