Keep Cool – Facts & Info

An ENERGY STAR® qualified air conditioner uses HALF the electricity than the average 1990 model.

An ENERGY STAR® qualified dehumidifier uses at least 20% less electricity than an old model.

The average room air conditioner used in Ontario's homes today generates 1.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide yearly. Carbon dioxide is a known contributor to climate change.

Rust or erosion on an older window air conditioner could mean that harmful refrigerants (like CFCs and HCFCs) are polluting your air.

Window air conditioners create a large demand on electricity production in the summer time, so the use of fossil fuels soars when the temperature rises. Inefficient window air conditioners contribute to higher smog forming emissions, and higher energy bills.

Summer peaks in energy consumption mean increased emissions of nitrogen oxides into the environment, a key element in producing ground level ozone – commonly referred to as smog.
