The 2003 Mow Down Pollution program ran from April 25 to May 4 at all 90 Home Depot stores across Canada. This was the first time it was run on a national scale and the results were inspiring: retiring 2712 old polluting gas mowers and trimmers and offering incentives for people to switch to a cleaner way to cutting their lawn. The reclaimed mowers were recycled for their component metals and the oil and gas was removed, processed, and then reused. As a result of this program, it is estimated that HC was reduced by 12.01 tonnes, CO was reduced 45.65 tonnes, NOx was reduced 0.04 tonnes, and PM was reduced by 0.3 tonnes. |
